Discover + Capital One FAQ: Credit Cards

Get all the important information about our merger right here. All answers are current as of May 18, 2025. 

On May 18, 2025, Discover Bank merged into Capital One, N.A. We’re now one company under Capital One. The Discover brand and your Discover account are not going away.

Yes, definitely. Your account number, rewards, and benefits haven’t changed, and you can continue to use your Discover Credit Card as you always have.

There's no action you need to take to keep using your account or card. Your card will continue to work as normal.

Yes, continue to manage your account using your existing user ID and password at Discover.com and the Discover mobile app.

Keep making payments as you currently do online, by phone, or by mail to the same address on your statement. If you’ve chosen to use automatic payments to pay your Discover Card account, your payments will continue to be processed on the same schedule. 

If you use Discover for any recurring charges like subscriptions or memberships, those will still be processed as usual.

At this time, you can’t make Discover Card account payments at Capital One branches or cafes.

Yes. You can still pay your bill and view your account information by logging in at Discover.com.

Yes, definitely. You can apply at Discover.com any time.

Not at this time. 

You’ll still enjoy uninterrupted access to your great Discover benefits. If you have any questions about your Discover account, reach out like you usually do at Discover.com, in the mobile app, or by phone.

Currently, you aren’t able to make deposits or ask questions about your Discover account at Capital One bank branches, cafes, or through Capital One customer service.

Keep using your Discover and Capital One accounts as usual. Note: Discover benefits do not transfer to your Capital One account, and Capital One benefits do not transfer to your Discover account. 

If you have any questions about your Discover account, reach out like you usually do at Discover.com, in the mobile app, or by phone. For all other Capital One products, please continue to contact Capital One servicing for questions about that account.

Yes, we’re still looking out for your personal information. Your security stays a top priority.

We still monitor your account for fraudulent activity and notify you if any suspicious activity is detected. You’re never held responsible for unauthorized purchases on your Discover Card.

$0 Fraud Liability: An “unauthorized purchase” is a purchase where you have not given access to your card information to another person or a merchant for one-time or repeated charges. Please use reasonable care to protect your card and do not share it with employees, relatives, or friends. Learn more at Discover.com/fraudFAQ.

Safeguard your account: scammers who claim to be Discover or Capital One may contact you asking for sensitive information. Remember, we won't contact you about these changes asking you to provide us with sensitive information such as your card number, password, or a one-time code. If ever in doubt, please call us directly.

Yes. You continue to earn automatically on every purchase, every day. 

And you will keep the rewards that you’ve already earned. Remember, your rewards never expire. And you can redeem any amount, any time.

Your same rewards terms still apply to your account. 

Rewards never expire. We reserve the right to determine the method to disburse your rewards balance. We will credit your Account or send you a check with your rewards balance if your Account is closed or if you have not used it within 18 months. You may be unable to redeem rewards in some limited situations such as when you choose to use an electronic funds transfer to redeem rewards to a new (unverified) deposit account. Any gift card must have a minimum value of at least $5.00 to be redeemed.

Yes. Your physical card and card design are not changing. At this time, you will not be getting a new card from Capital One.

You can always see your credit line at the top of your account center when you log in. You can also see it at the top of your statement.

Yes. Just like always, you can see up to two years of past statements online; and if you’re enrolled in paperless statements, you can see up to seven years of past statements in your online account.

Yes, keep paying with Discover like you usually do, including your digital wallet.

Yes. If you activated these benefits, you’ll continue to get them. And you can enroll in these free benefits if you haven’t yet.

Yes, your approved Authorized User(s) can continue to use your Discover account like usual.

No, not anymore. Because Discover is now part of Capital One, you cannot transfer balances between a Discover account and a Capital One account. 

If you just transferred balances between a Discover account and a Capital One account, and it hasn’t posted yet to your account, it may be rejected. 

And if you have balance transfer checks from Discover, you cannot use them to pay off a Capital One account.

Yes. Get your FICO® Credit Score, plus see important details that help make up your score, for free.

FICO® Credit Score Terms: Your FICO® Credit Score, key factors, and other credit information are based on data from TransUnion® and may be different from other credit scores and other credit information provided by different bureaus. This information is intended for, and only provided to, Primary account holders who have an available score. See Discover.com/FICO about the availability of your score. Your score, key factors, and other credit information are available on Discover.com and Discover cardmembers are also provided a score on statements. Customers will see up to a year of recent scores online. Discover and other lenders may use different inputs, such as FICO® Credit Scores, other credit scores, and more information in credit decisions. This benefit may change or end in the future. FICO is a registered trademark of Fair Isaac Corporation in the United States and other countries.

Yes, there are no changes to your Identity Theft Protection plan at this time.

Yes, there are no changes to your Wallet Protection plan at this time.

Your Cardmember Agreement and any other Agreements (“Agreement”) are now between you and Capital One. This Agreement and your account are governed by applicable federal law and, to the extent state law applies, the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, where Capital One is headquartered.
