Air Miles Credit Card FAQ’s

Airlines usually award frequent flier miles for flights you take after you join the airline's frequent flier program. An airline may also award frequent flier miles for purchases using the airline's credit card. Frequent flier miles can usually be redeemed for flights, but there are often blackout dates and other restrictions. The Discover it® Miles credit card doesn't earn frequent flier miles, but it earns credit card Miles, and you can turn Miles into cash. Or redeem as a statement credit for your travel purchases like airfare, hotels, rideshares, gas stations, restaurants and more.1

However you redeem, Miles have the same value. The amount needed for one flight will vary depending on the cost of the ticket, but the math is simple. Every 100 Miles equals $1 to redeem. The best part? No blackout dates. Once you make a travel purchase, simply redeem your Miles as a statement credit towards that purchase.1

Some airline miles may expire, whether you earn them through an airline miles credit card or by flying. The expiration of airline miles will depend on your airline's rules. Unlike an airline miles credit card, the Discover it Miles Credit Card offers Miles that don't expire.

Each airline miles credit card has its own rules for earning and redeeming miles. Cards issued by an airline may earn miles that can only by used on that airline. The Discover it Miles card allows you to turn miles into cash. Or redeem as a statement credit for your travel purchases like airfare, hotels, rideshares, gas stations, restaurants and more.1

An airline miles credit card offered by an airline usually earns miles that are good in that airline's program only. Some travel cards let you transfer airline miles to other travel partners. With the Discover it® Miles credit card you can turn Miles into cash. Or redeem as a statement credit for your travel purchases like airfare, hotels, rideshares, gas stations, restaurants and more.1 There's no need to transfer anything to an airline.

Because Discover it® Miles is not a co-branded travel credit card, you can earn Miles with any airline that welcomes Discover. Discover is accepted nationwide by 99% of the places that take credit cards.5

For people that love to travel for pleasure or business, travel rewards credit cards can reward sepnding on tarvel with points that can be redeemed for branded flights, hotel stays, or more. However, many travel credit cards that include an airline miles program will requre an annual fee or have blackout dates. Check for the miles program that provides you the most possible benefits.

With Discover, every 100 Miles equals $1 to redeem. Turn Miles into cash. Or redeem as a statement credit for your travel purchases like airfare, hotels, rideshares, gas stations, restaurants and more.1

Automatically earn unlimited 1.5x Miles on every dollar of every purchase. And don't worry, your Miles never expire.1

  1. Redeem Miles: Starting at 1 Mile, you can redeem your Miles as a credit to your account to pay for all or part of your bill, for cash as an electronic deposit to your bank account, or for a credit for Travel Purchases made on your statement within the last 180 days. Travel Purchases include airline tickets, hotel rooms, car rentals, travel agents, online travel sites, commuter transportation, restaurants and gas stations. Restaurant purchases include those made at merchants classified as full-service restaurants, cafes, cafeterias, fast-food locations, and restaurant delivery services. Gas Station purchases include those made at merchants classified as places that sell automotive gasoline that can be bought at the pump or inside the station. Gas Stations affiliated with supermarkets, supercenters, and wholesale clubs may not be eligible.

Even if a travel purchase on your statement appears to fit in a Travel Purchase category, the merchant may not have a merchant category code (MCC) in a Travel Purchase category. Merchants and payment processors are assigned an MCC based on their typical products and services. Discover Card does not assign MCCs to merchants. Certain third-party payment accounts and digital wallet transactions may not be eligible for credit redemption if the technology does not provide sufficient transaction details or a qualifying MCC. See Terms and Conditions for more information.
