It's completely free to activate. You can activate 5% Cashback Bonus using the Discover mobile app, your online account or by calling 1-800-DISCOVER (1-800-347-2683). 


And you'll still earn unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases outside of the 5% program.

No, there is no limit to the overall amount of Cashback Bonus you can earn, and you always earn cash back on every purchase. The 5% Cashback Bonus program does have a quarterly maximum and other special promotions may also include a cap.

  2. 5% Cashback Bonus: For Discover it® and Discover® More® cardmembers only: Activate to earn 5% Cashback Bonus at Restaurants and Drug Stores from 1/1/24 (or the date which you activate 5%, whichever is later) through 3/31/24, on up to $1,500 in purchases. Restaurants purchases include those made at merchants classified as full-service restaurants, cafes, cafeterias, fast-food locations, and restaurant delivery services. Drug Store purchases include those made at stand-alone drug stores, pharmacies, online pharmacies, and some pharmacies located inside of retail stores.

  3. Use Rewards with PayPal: Paying with rewards using PayPal is not available at all merchants or for all purchases when checking out online or in app. Paying with rewards using PayPal may not be available when paying with the PayPal wallet or when making recurring payments. Paying with rewards using PayPal is not available in-store. PayPal and merchants determine whether paying with rewards is available to use at merchants, and Discover does not make that determination.
