Are you looking for a way to manage your credit card account while you’re on the go? Using your smartphone to manage credit card payments or account activity may help you save time, money and hassles. Instead of visiting your financial institution to make payments, or opening up your laptop or desktop to look up your account activity, much of the information you need about your Discover card account can be accessed on your mobile device.

In fact, your Discover card offers a mobile app that’s compatible with your iPhone, Android and tablet.

What You Can Do With Discover’s Mobile App

The Discover Mobile app is currently offered in the Apple App Store or via Google Play. Once you download and install it, you can use it to perform most of the tasks that you’d perform on the Discover website or by calling customer service.

Manage Your Account

From the app’s home page, you can check your current balance, last statement balance and any rewards you’ve earned.

The Account menu allows you to pull up recent activity, search transactions, tag transactions, view statements and balance transfer offers. To keep track of the activity on your Discover card account, go to the Recent Activity section to see purchases, payments, accrued interest and charges. Filter results further by searching for transaction types.

The Payments menu will allow you to make a payment, see recent payment activity, view automatic payments and view the bank accounts you’ve connected to draw payments from. Making a payment to your Discover card account with the Discover Mobile App takes just four steps:

  1. Log into the app and select “Make a Payment” from the Payments menu.
  2. Choose the payment amount you wish to make – from current balance, to statement balance, to the minimum payment, or another value
  3. Choose your preferred bank account, and whether you’d like to apply any of your earned Cashback Bonus to the payment
  4. Tap “Make a Payment”, and then verify the information before tapping the confirmation.

Another exciting feature of the mobile app is the ability to interact with your rewards. In the Earn Cashback Bonus and Redeem Cashback Bonus menus, you can handle a variety of tasks, including:

  • Signing up for different places you can use your Cashback Bonus each quarter.
  • Referring Discover to a friend to earn Cashback Bonus
  • Redeeming your earned Cashback Bonus for a statement credit, electronic deposit and certain retail gift cards (which offer additional value), as well as learning how to link your Discover card to your account in order to use your Cashback Bonus at checkout**
  • Seeing your rewards redemption history

From the Activate & Manage Cards menu, freeze your account using Freeze itSM, an on/off switch that lets you freeze your account in seconds to prevent new purchases, cash advances and balances transfers if you misplace your card*. If you think your card was lost or stolen, you can even use the app to report it lost, or request replacement for a damaged card.

The Profiles & Settings section allows you to manage e-mail and text alerts, manage paperless statements, change your login password, enable Touch ID with a compatible device and create or change your card’s PIN.

You also can customize what appears in the Quick View feature, which gives you a quick overview of your account, without even logging in. This section is where you also can enable the Discover mobile app on your Apple Watch.

Finally, the Customer Service menu lets you live chat with Discover representatives when they are available and access the Secure Message Center, where you can send and receive messages about your account. Other customer service options include viewing Frequently Asked Questions and setting up a notification to let Discover know you will be traveling.

Keep Track of Spending with the Spend Analyzer for iPad

If you’re using the Discover app on an Apple iPad, take the opportunity to review your spending with Discover Spend Analyzer. This tool sorts your Discover card purchases into several categories, such as restaurants, groceries and services so you can track and learn about your spending habits. View your spending patterns for the past one to six months or longer, and compare your spending across categories. Choose to view the details in a pie chart, graph or list format. This is a great way to help improve your budgeting skills.

Taking a moment to familiarize yourself with the Discover mobile app can help you easily manage your account on your mobile devices.

*When you freeze your account, Discover will not authorize new purchases, cash advances, or balance transfers. However, some activity will continue including bills that merchants mark as recurring, as well as returns, credits, dispute adjustments, payments, Discover protection product fees, other account fees, interest, rewards redemptions and certain other exempted transactions.”
