How do I make Discover my default card for Google Pay?
When you use Google Pay, your default payment method is automatically charged. You can easily set or change your default method to your Discover card to make sure you're getting the most from your card's rewards.
To set your default:
The first payment method you add to Google Pay becomes your default for in-store purchases.
To change your default:
- Open the Google Pay app.
- On the lower right, tap "Cards."
- Tap the card you want to make your default card.
- Tap "Set as Default."
How do I use Google Pay in stores?
To pay with your smartphone in stores:
- Wake up and unlock your device. No need to open the app.
- Hold the back of your phone close to the payment terminal for a few seconds.
- Your payment is successful when you see a blue check mark.
Then, simply follow the payment terminal's instructions—the same as you would if you insert your card.
Or to pay with Android Wear in stores:
- Open Google Pay app on your watch.
- Hold your watch over the payment terminal until you hear a sound or feel a vibration.
- Choose "credit" if asked, regardless of card type and follow the instructions on the payment terminal.
How do I use Google Pay on a website or an app?
Just look for the Google Pay logo, or older Google Wallet or Android Pay logos when you shop online using any browser, or in apps like Uber and Airbnb.
At checkout, just tap the Google Pay purchase button. You might be asked to pick a payment method and enter your shipping address before confirming your order.
What devices are eligible?
You will need an NFC-enabled Android phone running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher. To see the version of Android you're running, open your phone's "Setting" app, then tap "About Device."
If you see one of the following errors, your phone might not be supported:
- "Google Pay can't be used."
- "Google Pay is unable to verify your device."
- "You can no longer use Google Pay on this phone."
If you have a supported device and are experiencing issues, many of them can be fixed by resetting your phone to factory settings.Use of an eligible Android Wear 2.0 device.

Where can I use Google Pay?
In order to use Google Pay in-store, a merchant must accept contactless payments. To identify if a merchant accepts contactless payments, look for at least one of these symbols in the store:
You can also use your Discover card while shopping in participating merchant apps.
How do I add my Discover card to Google Pay?
- Open the Google Pay app.
- At the bottom right, tap "My Cards."
- At the bottom right, tap the "Add +" option.
- Tap "Add a credit or debit card."
- Take a photo of your card or enter your information manually.
- Find and enter the verification code you receive via email, text or phone.
Or without the app, simply log in to your Google Account and visit the Google payments center.
When is my payment information linked to my Google Account?
Your payment information is linked to your Google Account when you:
- Buy a Google product or service (like an app or movie on Google Play or storage space for Google Drive).
- Add cards to Google Pay, Chrome or another Google payment product.
To see which payment information is on file with Google, visit the Google payments center.

If your card is misplaced, you can freeze your Discover account online or with our mobile app. The Freeze it® on/off switch prevents new purchases, cash advances and balance transfers in seconds.*
Or, if your card is lost or stolen, call 1-800-DISCOVER to report your card as lost or stolen. It will be unavailable in Google Pay for 24 to 48 hours while a new account number is created and updated. No further action is required on your part to continue to use your card in Google Pay.
