When Is the Best Time to Buy Furniture?
Conventional wisdom says that the best times to buy new furniture are mid-to-late winter and mid-to-late summer. However, if you had to choose a single month for the best deals, January might be your best bet. That said, consider these tips for identifying the right time for you to find the best deals on furniture:
Why January is a good time to buy furniture
When new furniture styles come out and arrive in stores, merchants have to sell their remaining inventory as quickly as they can to make room for the new stuff. New furniture styles typically hit the showroom floor twice a year (in February and August), so January is definitely a good time to help retailers clear the floors for the new season’s furniture sets.
Why winter is a good time to buy patio furniture
You can typically find significant discounts (sometimes of 50, 60 or even 70 percent) on patio furniture during the winter when few people are thinking about, or are in the market for, outdoor furniture.
Conversely, spring might be the worst time to shop for patio furniture, because there is huge demand on outdoor items such as tables, chairs and barbecue sets during this time, and higher demand commands higher prices.
Why summer is a good time to buy furniture, too
As mentioned above, new furniture models generally come out in August; plus, there are Fourth of July sales, which often means “everything is on sale” because it’s often one of those times of year where you may find clearance prices all over the store as retailers make room for new furniture. Also, the end of summer is when the “back to school” sales start, so you may be able to save on children’s furniture sets, too.
The right time to buy office furniture
While the timeframes of mid-to-late winter and mid-to-late summer still hold true, tax time (April) can also be a good time to buy office furniture. Of course, you can also look for office furniture during the back-to-school sale season in August and September and take advantage of potential overstock in late September.
Bottom line: If you’re waiting for the best time to buy furniture, you can start hitting the stores (whether online or brick and mortar) in January. Otherwise, when summer rolls around, you’ll have another shot at saving.
