Yes, a cosigner is considered a co-borrower and is equally responsible for repayment of the loan.
Discover originated loans do not provide an option for cosigner release. As a cosigner, you would be responsible for the life of the loan. If you are a cosigner on a loan purchased and serviced by Discover, find out more information about cosigner release.
If the student has already submitted an application and gave us your email address, we would have sent you an e-mail with a unique 6-digit code called a Cosigner Key. You can use this Cosigner Key to fill out your information on the application.

If you do not receive an e-mail from us, ask the student for the Cosigner Key or you can call us at 1-800-STUDENT to apply.

If the student has not started their application, you can start the application process as a cosigner.
We will notify the student immediately if you pass the credit requirements of the loan and we will notify you if you need to come back and look at the terms and conditions and sign the loan documents. If we are unable to approve your credit, we will send you a letter notifying you of our credit decision.
When you submitted your cosigner application information we sent you an e-mail containing your Access Code. You can check the status of your application anytime using your Access Code. If you have created a User ID/password already, you can also login to access your cosigner application information.
We sent you an e-mail with your Access Code when you submitted your cosigner application information. If you do not have the e-mail, please register/login to access your cosigner application information.
Yes. You can withdraw your Cosigner Application any time before the student selects you as a cosigner. The student has 180 days to accept your cosigner application information. Once the student selects you as a cosigner, you can no longer withdraw your information online.
Your student has 180 days to accept you as a cosigner. If they don't select you as a cosigner within 180 days, your information will expire.
