We know how frustrating it can be to forget your password or user ID. That’s why we make it easy to change your Discover credit card password and recover your ID. And don’t forget to review the guidelines below for creating secure log-in credentials…

What to do if you forgot your Discover password

To change your password, click the “Log In” button at the top of the page, then choose “Forgot User ID/Password” to log in using your 16-digit account number, your date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security number.

Once you log in to your account, select “Account Profile” at the top of your screen and click the “Edit” button under “Account Information” on the Account Profile page. From there, you can create a new password. Your new password will not expire.

If you don’t have your card information, you can reset your password by calling Customer Service at 1-800-DISCOVER (1-800-347-2683). You’ll receive an email with a temporary password that expires in 72 hours. Be sure to create a new password as soon as you log in.

Your Discover password is not the same as your PIN

Don’t confuse your Personal Identification Number (PIN) with your password. Your PIN is a four-digit number used with your Discover Card at an ATM or financial institution to get a cash advance or to withdraw cash from your Discover Money Market account. Your Account Center password is an 8–32-digit code you use to access online Account Center services.

Guidelines for creating a Discover Password or user ID

Your password is case-sensitive and must be between 8-32 characters with at least one number.

Create a strong password by including spaces and special characters. Consider using a passphrase that may be easier to remember and provides an added layer of security. A passphrase is a longer, multi-word password. Try to use a group of words or a sentence familiar to you—the lengthier the passphrase, the better. Example: “Orang3 is my favorit3 color!”

Your user ID is not case sensitive and must be 6-16 characters. It can contain any character on your computer’s keyboard except spaces, apostrophes, quotation marks and backslashes.

Your user ID should be something others can’t guess but easy for you to remember without writing it down. Choose something personal that only you would know. To increase security, use a combination of letters and numbers. Example: my2dog5is. Avoid using numbers at the beginning or end of your user ID.
