Understanding the True Cost of College

College Financial Aid Preparation Tools

Many families focus on the college search, selection and admission process. Figuring out how to pay for college is also an important part of this process.

The federal government's FAFSA4caster helps families estimate their financial aid eligibility. This online calculator can be used by families with students in high school or even as early as middle school. After completing several questions, you will be provided a worksheet that estimates the amount of federal student aid you could receive and your estimated Expected Family Contribution.

Net Price Calculator

Colleges and universities that participate in the Title IV federal student aid program must include a net price calculator on their website. The net price calculator is typically found within the financial aid section of a college or university's website.

This calculator is intended to provide prospective and current students the estimated net price of attendance. The net price is the estimated cost of attendance including, tuition, fees, room and board, books and supplies, minus any grants or scholarships. The estimated cost is based on what similar students paid the previous year to attend that particular college or university.
