Speaker 1: Today, we’re out here showing people that free Wi-fi isn’t always free. Sometimes the price you pay is a compromise to your own personal information.
Public Wi-fi?
Speaker 2: Yep.
Speaker 1: You know, this is going to sound crazy, but you kind of strike me as the type to have a Goldendoodle.
Speaker 2: Yeah?
Speaker 1: Name… Ted?
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: And you take him to the Doggy Day Spa twice a month.
Speaker 2: My wife loves that place. I mean, how did you know that, though?
Speaker 1: I can explain everything. So, that public Wi-fi you were on? You unintentionally shared information that was a little too public. Come here, I’ll show you.
The public Wi-fi you used allowed our security expert to find out more about you than you probably thought. Don’t worry, this is all a demonstration. It’s not really that easy, but it can be done with a few key pieces of information.
Speaker 2: This is crazy. I never knew how vulnerable I was.
Speaker 1: Well, when you use public Wi-fi, hackers learn more about you than you might’ve ever wanted.
Speaker 2: So, this is how identity theft happens?
Speaker 1: It’s definitely one way. There’s lots of suggestions as to what you can do to better protect your identity, but one suggestion is if you’re a Discover cardmember, you can get Discover Identity Theft Protection for just 15 bucks a month.
It’s not a bad deal at all.
