J. Michael Shepherd

Director, Interim Chief Executive Officer and President

Michael Shepherd was named interim chief executive officer and president of Discover in April 2024, having previously been elected to the Discover board of directors in August 2023. Before joining Discover, Michael joined BancWest and Bank of the West in 2004 and served as General Counsel, President and Chairman and CEO. Michael also served as the Chairman of BNP Paribas USA, Inc. and as a Director. Bank of the West was acquired by BMO in February of 2023. Before joining Bank of the West, Michael was General Counsel of The Bank of New York Company, Inc. and of Shawmut National Corporation. He served in government as Senior Deputy Comptroller of the Currency, Associate Counsel to the President of the United States and Deputy Assistant Attorney General. Michael is also a director of Pacific Mutual Holdings Inc., and previously was a director of First Hawaiian Inc. and CoreLogic. He is a member of the Dean’s Council at the National Cathedral in Washington, the Business Executive Council of the University of California, and the Council on Foreign Relations. Michael previously served as a Member and President of the Federal Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Board, as a Member of the FDIC Advisory Committee on Economic Inclusion, as a director of the Presidio Trust, and as a Director of The Clearing House.

John T. Greene

Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

John T. Greene joined Discover in September 2019 as executive vice president, chief financial officer. Prior to joining Discover, John served as executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer at Bioverativ, a global biopharmaceutical company. From 2014 to 2016, he was chief financial officer for Willis Group Holdings, which was preceded by more than eight years at HSBC Holdings where he held CFO positions for several divisions, including retail bank and wealth management; insurance and consumer and mortgage lending. He also held various CFO roles in his 12-year tenure with General Electric from 1993 to 2005. John holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the State University of New York and a master’s degree in Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Carrie Blair

Executive Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer

Carrie Blair joined Discover in March 2024 as executive vice president, chief human resources officer (CHRO). Carrie brings three decades of experience in large, complex multinational financial services organizations and is known as a highly effective leader who has helped companies transform, scale, and grow. Prior to joining Discover, Carrie served as president and founder of Tayside Group, a boutique HR consulting firm as well as Executive Vice President and CHRO at Allstate Insurance Company and Sun Life Financial. She also worked at TD Bank Group for 20+ years, where she held several senior HR leadership positions, including EVP, Human Resources, TD Bank N.A. Carrie earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University and completed the Human Resource Executive Program at University of Michigan.

Dan Capozzi

Executive Vice President, President – Consumer Banking

Dan Capozzi was named executive vice president, president – Consumer Banking in July 2023. Dan served as president – US Cards from December 2020 to 2023. In his current role Dan will oversee enterprise marketing, consumer products (US Card, Lending, and Deposits), and customer care operations. He joined the executive committee in June 2017 and led credit operations and decision management from 2018 to 2020. Since joining Discover in 2007, Dan has held leadership positions in the deposits business and corporate finance. Prior to joining Discover, Dan held various leadership positions in finance at Citi and Bank of America. Dan holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Northeastern University.

Bill Chippendale

Chief Audit Executive, Executive Committee Member (Non-Voting Member)

Bill Chippendale was named to the executive committee, in addition to his current role as chief audit executive, at Discover in October 2023. He has over 25 years of experience leading audit functions and providing strategic risk management advisory services to large- and mid-sized financial services companies. Bill leads the groups executing operational, compliance, reporting and strategic risk audits across Discover's diverse business lines. Prior to joining Discover in 2020, he was a consultant and deputy chief auditor at Capital One, having held varied audit leadership positions during his 10-year tenure there. Preceding this, he was part of the audit leadership of JPMorgan Chase and a Senior Manager at EY. He has a B.S. in economics and psychology from the University of Rhode Island and holds professional designations as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).

Jason Hanson

Executive Vice President, President - Payment Services

Jason Hanson was named Executive Vice President, President – Payment Services and joined the executive committee in July 2023 with responsibility for Discover Network, PULSE, and Diners Club International. Since joining Discover in 2019, Jason oversaw payments strategy, business development, global acceptance and network operations. Prior to joining Discover, Jason held roles at FIS/WorldPay and McKinsey & Company. Jason holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the United States Military Academy, West Point, and an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Amy Hellen

Executive Vice President, Chief Risk & Compliance Officer

Amy Hellen was named executive vice president, chief risk officer in April 2024 and oversees all aspects of the corporate risk management function. She also continues to serve as the company's chief compliance officer. Prior to joining Discover in December 2021, Amy spent 15 years with TD Bank where she led global anti-money laundering operations and held a variety of senior roles in retail banking, risk management, compliance and third party risk management. Prior to that, Amy worked in retail banking for Chase, PNC, and Fifth Third Bank. Amy serves on the Board of Trustees for the National Foundation for Credit Counseling, the board of Ascendus, the ABA Compliance Board, and the Syracuse University, Whitman School of Management, Lubin School of Accounting board. Amy achieved her undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University and her MBA from Syracuse University.

Hope Mehlman

Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel and Secretary

Hope Mehlman joined Discover in January 2023 and is the chief legal officer, general counsel and secretary. Prior to joining Discover, Hope was executive vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary of Bank of the West and corporate secretary of BNP Paribas USA, Inc. Hope holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University, a Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University Law School and a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University School of Law.

Jason Strle

Executive Vice President, Chief Information Officer

Jason Strle joined Discover in July 2023 as executive vice president, chief information officer. Prior to joining Discover, Jason served as EVP & Group CIO of payments, virtual solutions, innovation and community banking business units for Wells Fargo. Before Wells Fargo, he spent almost 13 years with JP Morgan Chase in roles of increasing scope, culminating as CIO, consumer banking, business banking and auto. Jason holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Keith Toney

Executive Vice President, President – Credit & Decision Management

Keith Toney was named executive vice president, president credit and decision management in July 2023. He has served on the executive committee since November 2020. He joined Discover in December 2019 and has more than 20 years of information technology experience in financial services and analytics at organizations such as LexisNexis, Ernst & Young, LLP, Connexion Point, LLC, and Hartford Financial Services. Keith has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in mathematics from Ohio State University.
