Cards that celebrate our customers

Employees in our Pride employee resource group (ERG) initiated the launch of the iconic Pride Card design in 2015. And in 2021, employees from our BOLD ERG unveiled three new card designs celebrating Black culture. These designs are available for all Discover® Cardmembers.

Serving local restaurants

The pandemic hit local restaurants hard, especially Black-owned restaurants. We had to do something—so we launched the #EatItForward campaign, offering $5 million to Black-owned restaurants. People nominated their favorite Black-owned restaurants on our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages, giving each nominee a chance to receive one of 200 awards of $25,000.

Working with all businesses

“In 2021, we increased Discover spend with minority-owned businesses by 80%, our spend with women-owned businesses by 24%, and increased our spend with veteran-owned businesses by 92%. Cultivating a more diverse supplier network will remain a top priority for the entire organization.”

When we partner with another business or supplier, it’s important that they have diverse representation too. It’s an opportunity to change inequities in business and make a real, lasting economic impact.

Our goal is to more than double our spend with diverse suppliers, with a target spend of $125M by 2025. One of the ways we do this is by developing a supplier network of businesses whose ownership is comprised of at least 51% of one or more of these groups: minorities, women, veterans, people with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Giving all to our communities

We work hard to give back to the places we call home, focusing volunteer time in local schools and communities. We invest in youth development and education, like school beautification efforts and mentoring initiatives, that help foster learning and build a diverse talent pipeline for the future workforce.

As part of the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), federal regulators assess a financial institution’s performance in helping low- and moderate-income communities meet their credit needs. Discover Bank has received an “Outstanding” rating for its CRA performance every year dating back to 2002. In 2020, the FDIC provided an overall Outstanding Rating to Discover Bank—only 6% of banks examined received such a rating.
