First, you have to register with the Account Center online.

Please have your Discover Card available for the registration process. The following link will take you to the Account Center Registration page:

Then follow these steps:

  1. Create a User ID.
  2. Create a password.
  3. Reenter your password.
  4. Enter your e-mail address.
  5. Reenter your e-mail address.
  6. Enter your 16-digit Discover Card account number.
  7. Select the expiration date.
  8. Enter the Cardmember ID.
  9. Select your date of birth.
  10. Enter the last four digits of your Social Security number.
  11. Enter your mother's maiden name.
  12. Click "Continue."
  13. Please review the list of available e-mail reminders and place checks in the boxes next to each reminder you would like to receive.
  14. Please verify the information you have selected thus far for accuracy.
  15. When you are ready to continue please click on "Complete Registration."

Now you are ready to start shopping the safe way!

How do I launch Secure Online Account Numbers after I download and install it?

When you reach a checkout form, Secure Online Account Numbers will open and ask you if you would like help. If it doesn't open or if you want to open it manually, there are several options:

  1. Double-click the white circle icon with the orange 'D' in your system tray.

If you can log into the Account Center with your User ID and password, but not into Secure Online Account Numbers, please verify your password has no more than ten characters. Passwords longer than ten characters may work with the Account Center, but will cause problems for the Secure Online Account Numbers feature.

To protect the security of your Account, we limit the number of unsuccessful log in attempts that can occur in one day. Please allow 24 hours for Secure Online Account Numbers to reset itself if you have exceeded the allowed number of unsuccessful log in attempts.

However, you have to have Internet Explorer version 4.0 or higher on your PC for Secure Online Account Numbers to work. Upgrade your Internet Explorer browser at www.microsoft.com or your Netscape® Navigator browser at www.netscape.com.

The browser must be downloaded locally on your computer. If your browser is LAN based (for example, at work), you may experience difficulties downloading Secure Online Account Numbers. In all cases, the minimum modem configuration is a 28.8 modem connection.

  5. Scroll down the list to the "JAVA VM" section, and expand that section to view its content. Make sure these items are checked: "Java Console Enabled", "Java JIT Compiler Enabled" and "Java Logging Enabled."
  6. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
